That’s right!  Even though management has been too lazy to update the site with the September results, they weren’t too busy or lazy to schedule the October off-season tournament.  Mostly because someone walked up and said “do you want to do this on this day?” and the easiest thing to do was to say OK.

It’s going to be Friday October 10th on the 2nd floor of the Dive (947 East Passyunk).  Registration is at 9 and competition will start at 9:45.  $3 to play.

This will be your last Philadelphia-area warmup for the 2008 Yahoo! RPS World Championships which are going down on October 25th in Toronto.  From what I’m hearing, Philadelphia should have more players going up this year than ever before, so we are all feeling pretty good about bringing home the gold in 2008.  What’s that?  You want to be the one to win it all including $10,000?  Then hurry up and get your tickets from the World RPS Society!

Sorry…Killdozer vacation took the entire PBRPRPSCLCS staff out of town for a bit.

Rowdy Randy Piper won the September tourney (which featured more competitors than the 2008 PBRPRPSCLCS Championship - the 2nd year in a row that’s happened at an off-season event). PJ Rhymeswithsausage won the street prize. That’ll be updated this weekend.

While you’re waiting, check out this video from Leslie and the Ly’s who were the 2nd most incredible thing at the Forward Music Festival in Madison, WI last weekend.

Update: For some reason the YouTube clips won’t work.  So just go watch it here.

Now that the PBRPRPSCLCS has given you all summer to train for the 1st off-season event in the post-season 2008 it’s time to get back in the swing of things in September.

The September event has been booked at a venue that won’t close down the day before (see: July off-season event) and there shouldn’t be outside events that will distract your leadership from devoting the needed time to organize it (see: August off-season event).

The September Off-Season tournament will be at the Dive (947 East Passyunk) on Friday, September 12th. (just 1 week before Killdozer!).  Typical off-season rules.  $3 entry, 9 PM registration and 9:45-ish start.  Winner and runner-up split the pot and street winner gets a bar tab.

This will also be the first time that your referee will start bugging everyone hard about their plans to attend the Yahoo! RPS World Championships.

Tickets have just gone on sale for the 2008 Yahoo! Rock Paper Scissors World Championships October 25th in Toronto! This just in…the grand prize has been increased to $10,000 (Canadian, which I think is better these days).

Go here to purchase. I recommend that you also sign up to see the RPS Documentary on Friday before the Players Reception, if for no other reason than it paints your Commissioner in a rather nice light to the surprise of many (including your Commissioner).

It’s high time that Urbanus Philadelphia wins a World Championship. This is the best RPS city in the world. Let’s show ‘em what we got.

See you in Toronto!

Anyone who has been to the World Championships in Toronto knows how awesome Good Tymez Cafe (within two blocks of the Comfort Inn and Suites where everyone who’s anyone stays) is, where all the RPS players meet up and generally have good times and take money off the Norwegians.

Word came around today that Good Tymez Cafe is now closed.  The general feeling around the international RPS community has ranged from “I feel sick” to “What the heck are we going to do now?”.  So if anyone knows another place in town where we can drink, eat, use free computers and sing Wham Rap ‘86 from internet-based karaoke, please let us know.

To help you understand just how big a blow this is, think of it as if Oscar’s, the Dive and McGlinchey’s all closed simultaneously.

The best weekend of the year just lost a bit of its’ shine.  RIP Good Tymez, you’ll be missed by many for that one special weekend you gave us every year.

If you think you heard something about an invitational going down tonight, that’s not happening.

Although I highly recommend that you use the opportunity to enjoy a little Pabst Blue Ribbon and Jim Beam.  Perhaps while reading through the latest Next American City.

Sorry.  Lots of stuff going on here at the PBRPRPSCLCS offices.

Will be resolved and announced soon, so keep practicing.

The PBRPRPSCLCS Executive Committee, always fond of both mustaches and finding ways to make a positive difference in the local community for a change, has passed a resolution to begin exploratory research for the establishment of a Mustaches for Kids Philadelphia chapter.

If any members of the PBRPRPSCLCS community would be interested in taking part of this do-gooderness around the holiday season, please contact C. Urbanus at urbanus(at)rpscityleague(dot)com.  Remember, this is for the kids and you will actually be expected to raise money.

Reigning City League Champ Mr. Is (above, with below-average referee) checked in from the field after accidentally stumbling upon and purposefully cleaning up the competition and taking the title (and a chair that broke upon its’ first use) at a bush league event this past weekend in Ambler, PA.  A description of the scene direct from the Champ herself and edited a tiny bit on this end:

———

50+ drunk lawyer-types and their brethren, decked out in standard issue Other Beer Lite RPS mardi gras beads.  Amid a flurry of vertical paper, horizontal scissors, mandatory launchpads, and delayed throws, I was able to walk away victorious, bringing yet more pride and honor (and class) to the noble institution of the Package and PBRPRPSCLCS.

It was an easy night, where the boys all threw rock, the girls all threw scissors, and everyone played to beat the last throw.  After 5 rounds where I faced nothing but dudes (all stunned to lose to a girl, much less a brunette), the final came down to me and another lass, the most “well-advantaged” (as we in DBP would say) RPS player I’ve come across.  There was hooting and hollering from the crowd, but I suspect that it was
less for my cunning throws, and more for her ever-lower slipping shirt.  I took home victory in a swift 3-1 final, proving my might with the most confident rock I’ve ever thrown.  And my prize? A kiddie-sized patio chair. (Dear Other Beer Lite: Why do you make kiddie sized patio chairs??)

Conclusion: That other RPS league in the USA is for suckers.  PBRPRPSCLCS rules!

———

That’s right Mr. Is, it’s for suckers and jerks (except for one of them).  Disclaimer: The previous statement by the PBRPRPSCLCS does not include any of the players of any league when refering to ”suckers” and/or “jerks”.

Regardless of who is and who is not a sucker and/or jerk, congratulations to Champion Mr. Is on another grand tournament win this summer!

Bob & Barbara’s (and Tritone) got shut down by L & I over the weekend and will not be reopened by tonight for RPS.

The Dive almost happened, but didn’t due to a last minute schedule conflict that was going to make things complicated.

So RPS tonight is canceled. Sorry about that. Blame L & I.

Update: This means there will be 2 tournaments in August, to make up for the lost one in July.
